Making Your Home a Sanctuary

Your home should be treated like a sanctuary, a safe haven from the stresses of modern living, a tranquil place to recharge and find a sense of stability and inner-peace. The overall atmosphere your living space has an incredible influence on your life, your general mood and sense of wellbeing.
A messy, dishevelled living area, poorly lit, decorated in dank and depressing colours can add to ones general feeling of stress and unease. Conversely a well designed, warm and bright, organised and tidy space will help to create a happier, more positive and gentle environment, where you can relax more fully.
Breathing space and luminosity Sunlight is great for your eyes and it helps to regulate the bodies production of feel-good chemicals, so if you can make the most of daylight so situate your desk near a window, or a source of natural light.
A spacious, well-ventilated and bright milieu is most relaxing, but you can create the illusion of more space by just keeping surfaces clear and things organised.
Make a quiet space and time for yourself Noise pollution can significantly increase general levels of stress, even though we maybe subconsciously filtering much of it out.
It is a good idea, if you want to reduce stress inducing factors in your home to limit the time the TV and radio are on, when you are not actively watching or listening to them.
It is very much advised that you do not watch TV when you are eating, as this stops you from being able to truly appreciate the food you are eating and may in the long-term lead to indigestion. It is also suggested that you appropriate specific times for recreational relaxation, such as listening to music.
To help generate a more tranquil atmosphere in your living space, use soft lighting and scented candles after sundown and try to avoid stark florescent lighting.
